I need to replace my bias ply F70 Firestones and not sure I want to wait for BFGoodrich thru TireRack. Could I hear from anyone using Cooper Cobras? Good or bad, doesn't matter since I don't know and have never had a set of Cooper tires. Size would be 255/60/15. Got a local bid of about $450 installed/balanced, etc.
BfG.................. pretty sucky
General............. more sucky
Cooper cobras.... dangerous tires, no traction in the dry and in the wet your car will be a suicide plane
Yokohama 255/60 on my 79 and luv em. Check out tirerack and see the reviews. About 65 a tire is what I paid.
ESU
Just checked tirerack, 70 bux a tire, cheaper than all the above with better ratings than all the above if you can live with japanese tires on american iron.

That price sounds high to me. I was able to get my Coopers from a local dealer for $77 each. After installation, balance, and tax, the price came to $335.40. This was for the 255/60/15s.

have had two firestones fly apart and ruin my trucks. it takes an act of congress to make them pay including mailing them the tire at your expense and they decide who's liable. never got my truck repaired. you can pull a '57 out of the weeds with original tires and it'll roll but you can't ride on a tire made in 2000. As a nation were focused on safety, unless it interferes with corporate profits..

i was in the same boat about 2 years ago. tore up the whole side of my stepside bed and firestone wouldnt do anything about it, i have pictures, sent the time back and wrote letters numerous time and i got nodda from them. i will NEVER buy another tire from firestone or bridgestone.

Bridgestone and Firestone are run somewhat separately, just as Michelin and Uniroyal are. You may get a Uniroyal tire made in a Michelin plant, but never a Michelin tire in a Uniroyal plant. I believe BS/FS are similar.
As far as Cooper Cobra, I have 255/70/15s on my Suburban. I would not consider them a performance tire.
Not a speed rated tire. One hundred fifteen at the most. So if you are not playing bury the speedometer you will get along with them alright. If you think they are an all weather drive in the toughest ran at 70 mph you probably had better look elsewhere as well. But I get along with them just fine. Run 35 psi in them on hot pavement as they are extremely wide tread. Out on the old Kansas plains when it is 100 degrees out, the highway can be 140 degrees hot from heat soak. So if you want to play it safe air them up cold.:o

Firestone fixed the car tire problem with the Firehawk 500 recall in the mid-70s. The truck tire problem was unrelated, but nearly as old.

Mine came with the infamous Firestone 500s. One had a tread seperation, 2 went egg shape. Firestones are great for boat docks though...........

I bought my car with the BFG's on it. I thought the tires were just old and the rubber had hardened. It's starting to seem like they just suck. Wish I had started saving for my 17" wheels earlier.

I put a new set of BFGs on a couple years ago and it's a love/hate thing for me. Problem is when it comes to 15" tires anymore there just ain't nothing worth a crap out there, performance wise. Plus there's fewer sizes now to pick from then ever........
Isn't there any tire that can be used on the street that have good grip?
BTW I have 16" rims, I have only found BfG and Cooper that are wider than 255/50.
