Default Crager vs Torq Thrust

What is the difference in the Crager wheels vs the American Racing? I see a bunch of people with the Torq Thrust 2's and love the look, but the Crager wheels are $100 cheaper. Whats the difference? Why would I pay $100 more for the American Racing?

So Crager's will be similar weight wise to stock rally and TTIIs will be lighter?

I think the Cragars require a spacer to clear the calipers, and Tt2 fit without.

Also, I think you'll find TT2's available in many more sizes (width and diameter.) Years ago Crager made the S/S in many different backspace/offset sizes but I think they've narrowed that way down. TT2's are even available in custom sizes (at additional cost).

ALSO, the quality of TTII is far superior (nowadays) than Crager's. If you look at the back of the wheel, the Cragers are spot welded at each spoke, whereas TTII is welded all the way around. I remember growing up wanting ONLY Cragers SS wheels......but since the company was taken over by CenterLine, things have been "not quite the same"...Good Luck

I've run the gray TT's on mine..they are heavy solid aluminum castings and use spacers. Then I went to the TTII's...much lighter, fit with no spacers. I just recently pulled them off because I fell in love with the Cragars again..just had to have them. They are a good bit heavier than the TTII's, but probably similar to the TT's. They are a cast center with a steel rim welded to it. I'm not terribly wild about the *unilug* lug nut system they use...but it works OK. They do require spacers to clear calipers. I used 7/16" ones and had to do a little *polishing* on the lettering on the calipers to keep them from touching.

But I love the look!! There were just too many cars out there with the TTII's.

I'm looking to put the TTII's on my 76. What size rims (offset?) and tire combo are you using? Where would be the best place to buy these? My local guys are not up to speed on C3's...
Thanks..

Some years ago I worked at an auto center that sold sport wheels. Though we sold a lot of Cragars, I was never really impressed with them. They had the name, but I always felt other makes, like American Racing, were better.

The chrome on Cragars seemed to peel easily, allowing rust to start. What Cragars might be now, I don't know, but I do believe American Racing has always maintained it's quality control over the years.
