Wanted to say thank you to everyone who has responded to my earlier posts. If all goes well I should be purchasing my vette Saturday. I was wondering what level octane fuel you use. The engine is 350/350 if that matters at all.
I generally try to run 92 or 93. Careful with a 350/350. The heads may need to be reworked for hardened valve seals. Or add some of the lead additive to lubricate them.
Although there are some around here or don't do either, and I haven't heard too much complaining about it.
So I should use a 93 octane gas and get a lead additive for every tank? What about using an octane booster or synthetic lead replacement instead of lead?

Reason: another question
Would think premium 92/93 octane from a reputable gas station would be fine, unless motor is modified and running high compression with a lower lift cam in it.
Can always mix in some racing fuel as an option too. Octane boosters make me a bit leary.

Personally I would listen to lars when it comes to the info. It probably won't make that much of a difference whether or not you run the lead additive.
Yet another question... an airport near me, and conveniently enough on the way to work, offers 100LL fuel. Would that be preferential to using a regular stations premium grade fuel?
100LL (low lead) is a gasoline based aviation fuel. From what I've found, which I'll admit isn't much, it seems to be a higher octane gas with some lead in it.
from my understanding, jet fuel is pretty close to kerosene and is not meant for cars.
youll need real race fuel if thats what you want to do. i beleive some crystal flashes sell 105 or somthing along those lines.
100LL aviation fuel is not the same thing as jet fuel.
100LL is fine in cars only if you do 'not' have a cat converter... the lead in this fuel will clog it.
Aviation fuel can be anywere from 100LL to 'I think' 120LL.
In any case, I doubt you need that much ovtane in your 350/350 to warrant such high octane, and I doubt you need the lead either, so I wouldnt bother paying for the aviation fuel.
I run Sunoco 94 unleaded in my 70 350/350. It is not necessary to use a lead additive or leaded gas. Several studies have shown that unleaded fuel will not hurt old engines originally requireing leaded gas.
