I use to have a 68 mustang convertible that had a rear window that zipped open on three edges and folded down inside the car. When I took my surfboard it just stuck out the back unzipped window.
Now in the vette, I have to unhook the top and lift the back up over my board which has worked Ok for now. I'm due for a new top pretty soon and I'm wondering if you could get a zipper window custom and if anyone has every seen this before?
I keep the top down from April thru November but in the winter it gets cold in the early mornings and top down is not going to happen. The board rests from the passenger floor board out the back window.
First Al Knock may do a top for you as a special, try giving them a call. Then you could or a shop could install it.
Second J & D Corvette, Bellflower, works with a trim shop in the Lakewood Bellflower area and they may be able to help. Call Hi-me (phonetically spelled as it is a Spanish male name and I do not know the correct spelling) there and he may be able to help out.

Actually the window would rest forward not affected by wind and wouldnt hurt the paint.
999, I know Jaime (Hi-me) but didnt know they work with a top shop.
I'll give him a call. Thanks.
I had a '70 Triamph TR6 that had a zip down back window. Worked exactly as you said. I was surprised at how little air does blow through the cabin with the soft top up on my '69 vert. Let us know what you come up with.
3 yrs later Update: My top finally has a big rip in it but I don't need a new one until this fall since it wont rain until then. Top stays down for 6 months.
I called Robbins Tops who said they couldn't make me one since it would cost too much and they couldn't guarantee the fit would be tight.
Then I called Al Knock and they said no problem and the cost is only $405 which is not too much more than the $300 for the regular top.
Now I just need to save up for both installation and the top. Should be done by end of summer. I'll update then.
Having the sides and back window open and still shade from the top is a perfect combo that can't be beat on those days where you don't need the sun blasting you on the head.
Heck, if you are going to have a top that unzips, see if they can do it in glass. Yes, you would have to unzip it to lower the top but you would never have to worry about yellowing or cracking plastic.
