Where might one look to find a build sheet (or what may be left of one) tucked away on a '71 coupe?

Even if you find it it may not be readable...

The only thing readable on mine is 'special hood'

One thing to keep in mind about the build sheet is what its purpose was. It was a multi-part carbon document. One copy was glued to the top to the gas tank. Other copies were all up and down the assembly line for the workers to use to get the correct parts on the car. When they were done with their copy they would usually throw it into the trash. But sometimes they may be running behind and did not have the time to spare to take the two or three steps to the trans barrel, so they just stuffed them in the car in some unseen location. As such, copies have been found up under the dash, inside door panels, in seat springs, under the carpet, or just about any unseen area where the inspectors would not look.

They may still be hidden or a previous owner may have found and trashed them.

Good Luck,

tom...

Also reported to have been found behind either kick panel, in the wiring behind the speedo/tach, tucked in the springs beneath a seat bottom. As has been stated, these copies were supposed to have been tossed in the trash as part of GMs "depaper" policy. Nothing extra was supposed to be in the car when it shipped from St. Louis. You may not find anything, especially if Bubba was there before you.

Good Luck with the hunt.
