Default Puller help

Guys, I need to remove the pulley from my power steering pump but don't know what puller to buy. I've checked the Snapon site but they don't list the dimensions of the various pullers.

I've searched the web with searches like "GM power steering pump pulley puller" etc... and get quite a few hits but when I get to the site, they all say things like "to suite early GM vehicles" or "medium size GM, Chrysler, Ford vehicles". None actually (that I've found) list the inside dimension of the puller

I'm in Saudi Arabia, so I can't just go to Autozone and hire one. My Vette is '82 and the puller flange appears to be about 15/16th of an inch.

Can someone please tell me the brand and model number of the correct puller so I can buy one online? I'm a Snapon ****, but anything will do now!

Thanks in advance

Thanks Jeff, but which Snapon puller do I need? Stock #:CJ117C or Stock #:CJ124A And how does the installer work? Is the pump shaft internally threaded?

You MUST use the correct puller tool to remove the pulley. If you try and grap the OD of the pulley and pull from there, you will deform the pulley and you will have scrap! You must use a puller that grips the groove in the pulley hub and pulls from there and reacts against the end of the pump shaft. It is my understanding that auto parts stores like NAPA, Autozone, etc will loan these tools to you.

The pump shaft is internally threaded. It has a 3/8-16 female thread. Using the correct installation tool is the easiest. However, you can jury rig a pulley installer. A 3/8-16 bolt, a nut, and some greased heavy washers. Place the pulley directly on the pump shaft. Place the nut and then the two greased washers on the bolt. Thread the bolt into the pump shaft. Turn the nut so that it pushes the pulley onto the shaft. Continue turning the nut until the pulley hub is flush with the end of the pumpshaft.

DO NOT EVEN THINK about pressing the pulley directly onto the pumpshaft and reacting against the pump housing. You will destroy things inside the pump.

CJ124A Shows early GM. Should be correct.

Yes, It is threaded. See GERU JIM's reply. Jim, You ARE da Masta.
