Default 77 vette - need your advice

Well I have been looking at vettes for a while, mainly c3's. I have found a 77, in which looks to be in great condition. It is a darker red exterior, with a light brown interior. The owner said that the interior is new. The car has side pipes (which I have really wanted) and looks great in and out. Theres also alot of chrome under the hood. The owner says that the only thing the car could use is new paint. What do you guys think?

Specs.
1977 Chevy Corvette
-Matching #'s 350 bored .030 over
-Automatic with shift kit
-T-tops
-88,000 original miles
-Hooker chrome side exhaust pipes
-New interior (seats, dash, *****, bezels etc..)
-New front, rear, and door glass
-New Brakes
-New performance rear leaf spring.
-Lots of chrome (alternator, brake booster, master cylinder etc..)

Asking $8500

(The pictures are small, but there are 2)

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like a pretty nice car. I think the price is about right if the car is what he says it is.

In the absence of any major negatives it looks like a good deal to me.

Thanks guys for your advice. The car is relatively close to me, so I am going to take a ride over there next week with a mechanic friend to check things out. The first thing that I was also wondering about was the new glass. But maybe he's very meticulous with his restorations. I am awaiting his return email with a few questions about the car such as the status of the title. For the most part I thought this car looks great, as long as there are no problems I may go ahead and buy it.

well some of the glass replacement is not that unusual......the frort windshield is prone to rock chips so thats a no brainer......the doors probably had someone try and pry them open with a screw driver and the tops of the glass were damaged.....as to the back who knows maybe it was leaking and someone gooped it up with so much sealer that when they went to clean it up and reseal it the original glass broke......

Check out the emission laws in Massachusetts. The sidepipes would be illegal in California and most states since they obviously were not statndard equipment with the car, and would not have any catalytic converters on it.

If your state requires you to pass an emission test upon registering the car, you will have problems. If it has an expemption for cars 25 years or older, then you may be ok.

For the price of the car, $8500 seems to be reasonable for a car in good shape. It has a newer interior, which will save money on the deal. However the paint on the car may be costly. Do a search on what paint jobs cost for an average job, to a showcar quality.

I got my 77 in CT for the same price but it is a four speed with factory AC. It is a 20 footer too. If the rust isn't there I would say it is a pretty nice deal with the new interior especially. On the way home pick up some ball valves for your heater core hoses. Welcome to the "Yes it is a fast back, no it is not a Stingray" club.
