Explain please, I am not sure what you are getting at,,,,
Alot of the Pinks cars are inexpensive 'throw-aways'. They dont have a ton of money in them and are loaded with 'sponsor decals' for publicity. Did you wonder why you see so many P.O.S. 80's Mustangs?Corvettes have have timing chains. A belt driving the cam is $$$$$$ and not worth losing.
My old boss once told me, "Nine out of ten golf matches are won before anyone hits the first ball." That is all that Pinks is, negotiate your win. Its got nothing to do with racing.

I had an opertunity to speak with Jim Evans before the taping of the show, and got to look at both cars that night. Both were built with good parts, and not just thrown together.

I can tell you that drive belt is nothing compared to most parts. What is $500?

To me neither car looked looked like a "throw away" piece. They both seemed to be plenty fast and we all know the relationship between speed and money. I'm not so sure the Vette would have beaten the Chevelle the way it did if the Chevelle had not had the problem with it's delay box.
No matter the make and model, some people couldn't imagine loosing a car in a race. And to loose one that would cost a ton of cash to build would simply be nauseating. But I would have to assume the competitors realize the risk they're running since they signed the papers to compete. I would also have to assume these guys, or atleast the owner of the Chevelle is playing on a higher financial plane than myself as he stood ready with a cashier's check for thirty-something grand to buy his car back in case he lost. I guess his Chevelle didn't turn out to be "throw-away" at all.
I personally enjoy pinks. I think you have to remember they're selling entertainment and suspense mixed in with some racing. I did think it was entertaining how Rich apologized for ruining the race with his incident on the crotch-rocket. I think he was obviously embarrassed because he showed his back-side (who wouldn't be) and knew there was NO way the scene was going to be left on the cutting-room floor.

You might want to drive down to Somerset KY for the "SomerNites Cruise" (I think that's what they call it). They allow some pretty wild rides to cruise through the downtown area. It's not all that rare to see some car that in no way could be made street legal cruising around the downtown square. I will admit my partiality to the show since I am originally from Somerset. However, the fact that the show often attracts more than 1,100 cars speaks for it's popularity. I think it happens every fourth Saturday of every month beginning in April (I think) and ending in October (I think, they do have a web-site). You ought to come down and check it out. The best shows are usually May through September.
I thougt it strange he was running a timing belt and not a chain. I thought timing belts were for ricers.
From the Summit description:
These systems require less power to operate than conventional belt drives, and are proven to be more durable than either gear or chain drives.
The Vette driver may disagree with the durabilty part.
BTW. The Pinks crew travels around to different tracks and tapes several shows in one day. They were at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX last Fall. I was there as well as several thousand others. They taped 3 or 4 episodes.
They also taped the first Pinks "All Out" in Ennis. My buddy's blue 68 Dart is shown in the intro doing a burn out. I like the show, but there is not much car related I don't like.
