Default Draining coolant from block!!

I am ready to start my next task. I need to replace the intake manifold on my 81 due to a small crack near the carb bolt holes. I know I need to drain the coolant from the engine before I begin where are the drain plugs? any other helpful suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Marc

They are on the side of the block about in the center just above the oil pan mount. You can see it in this picture.

It's right in the center on the upside down pic.

Since my Corvette's radiator does not have a drain valve I just remove the lower radiator hose from the water pump or the radiator and let the water drain out. If I do it right I also remove the thermostat before I flush the cooling system.

Change your coolant at the same time, drain the rad and the eng will drain along with it, then change the gasket, the fluid will be low enough in the block so none comes out when you pull the intake

Sometimes if the block has not been drained thru the two places on each side of the lower block, the openings tend to be gunked up and nothing will drain out unless you stick something sharp into the hole to break loose the blockage. Usually on high mileage not very well mainted cars tho,,,,,Peace,,, Moosie
