A buddy of mine is looking to buy an 82 corvette in Maryland, he's also from Pa. I know you have notary work to do in Maryland as well as Pa when you get home, but what tags do you put on the car to drive it home?
Unless you have dealer plates or transporter plates and the liscense to use them you will have to make 2 trips.
1. buy the car, get the paperwork back to PA DMV and get plates
2. return and pick up the car and drive it home.
Anything else would be risky as you wil be driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle. You could throw a set of plates on from another car but that would just be for appearances as it would only get you in more trouble if stopped by the police. Or you could rent or borrow a trailer and load it and bring it back on the trailer.
Call your local state patrol office. Here in Wisconsin you have 2 business days to register a motor vehicle. As long as you have signed and PRE-DATED title, i cannot imagine you would be cited. Just check with the state patrol first. If the title is signed by the seller, but not dated, you will get a ticket here in WI, as there is no way for the officer to determine when you bought the car.
Towed mine home on a tow dolly from Maryland ... Got title and bill of sale then transfered when I got home I dont think Maryland is a notary State as I didn't need one....
