Downside? Nothing, really. However, I personally prefer Hella lights.
There's a downside. It takes a lot of modifications to the headlight assemblies to get these darn halo headlights to fit properly. There's a lot of cutting and grinding involved. I had to enlarge the holes (4 of them) in the headlight assemblies where the bulbs stick through. What a p.i.t.a.! Then I had to cut notches in each headlight cup/bucket for the three tabs in each headlight to fit properly and a hole for the little blue bulb in the headlights to stick through. You can see the little bulbs at the bottom of the headlights. They're just for show. Also, the headlight rings will need longer screws to mount the halos to the headlight cup/bucket because the halos are thicker than stock lights. I'm still not done installing the halos. I've spent about $164 just on accessories (wires, relays, connectors, switch) to install these lights. I'm going to continue the work this weekend and hopefully finish it. If I knew what was involved I wouldn't have bought these lights. I have an '82 vette by the way and it may be easier to install these lights on other years. Who knows? I think Durango_boy had an easier time at it since his vette is a '77 I think.
Marcusk408, Is this the same kit that you bought? Do you have pics? I am a little put off now that you say its a PITA.
I bought my halos from another seller on Ebay. I think they're from a different maker then the ones you saw but identical in dimensions. I wish Durango_boy had a picture of the rear of his halos to confirm this. His and mine appear to be Chinese made products. There's no writing/stamp anywhere on these headlights. No "DOT Approved" or anything like that.

Rear of halo against headlight assembly. Hole needs to be enlarged for halo to fit through.
Rear of headlight cup/bucket. Diamond shape needs to be enlarged for halo to fit through and front of cup needs three notches cut into it for the three tabs in back of the halo to sit in.
I prefer the E-code Hella lenses. No one in Missouri gives a darn anymore...they removed the headlight aimer test from the safety inspections years ago...so we don't need the DOT lugs. No one has ever failed my cars for having "off-road only" lights.
I think it looks cool, but I have so much other work on this project that I think I'm going to have to wait. I want to get the car on the road before I start ANOTHER project.......
I am in way over my head, and the credit cards are buring up........
Marcusk408 post pics when you are done. I saw Durango's pics and they look awsome.
