so we're running the front components off 2 channels, and the rear sub of 2 bridged channels. based on the factory RMS ratings the componets should get 60 watts each, and the sub 150watts. the head unit already installed in the vette is a no name brand but it does have RCA preamp rear outputs, RCA input's (for ipod) and also plays wma/mp3 cds. along with having an adjustable equalizer.
after removing the center console side plates i was shocked at the mess of wiring and the multiple fires just waiting to happen. Alot of the connections were just sitting there unprotected just waiting for a negative connection to start a fire. all that will be fixed. i worked on this project sat. from 2pm till about 7pm all i did was get all the wiring for the amp routed and connected to the head unit. the amp has been tested and is ready to be mounted to the back panel. All that is left to do is mount the amp. mount the sub into the tube and mount that onto the back panel as well. it will hang as high as possible with the use of L shaped brackets that i will fab up, hopefully this will provide more than enough room for the t-tops to still fit in there without any problems. something like this:
i already removed the kick panels and checked the clearance for the CDT components and they will fit into the pockets just fine, but i will have to trim the kicks and use the supplied speaker grills. after those are mounted next i need to find a good place for the tweeters and mount them and i should all be done. also after checking the condition of the battery that came on the car 550 CCA and the fact that the car was hard to start i talked my dad into a red top Optima battery as well as new terminals. i'll go at it again this weekend and post more pics next week.
Will have to do that. I don't know my + from my - . I've got the center console out and painting it now. I've got all the stuff purchased and laying in the car. The sound bar, the head unit, all the wiring and I've installed two new eclipse speakers in the dash pad (with a few modifications to it). All I really need to pick up is a small amp.
What kind of beer? - I can be there in 2 hours.

ok guys finished up the stereo project this weekend along with a few other odds and ends the interior of the 76 needed. new seat backs, rear view mirror, parking brake console arm rest, t-top bags, floor mats, and shift ****. unfortunetly the 6-1/2's did not fit on the kickpanels, and after debating on moding them with fiberglass i decided to install them on the doors intead. yes i chopped up the door panels and made a huge hole in the door. lol dad said it was cool as long as it sounded good. hardest part was alligning the hole on the door panel with the hole on the door. and feeding the wire into the door. i swear everything on these cars is 5 times as hard. the tweeters went on the little panels on either side of the center console, (per dad he wanted them there) IMO it would have sounded better on the door panels. the bazooka tube if you notice was not mounted the way i had planned. i put it up to mock and the t-tops fit fine under it BUT the old man brought up " what if i go on a trip, where do i put a bag and the t-tops?!" so we decided to leave it "removable" if need be. i secured it with a strap which can be undone easily and the tube comes out within a minute. i even hooked him up with a IPOD input cable which i routed through the cigarette lighter compartment. the sound is AWESOME!!!! night and day! i tried taking a video clip with my digital camera but came out bad. either way dad loves it. after it was all said and done i vacumed the interior shot armoral on everything and he left the drive way blasting pink floyd like a 20 year old.

I like Bud Light Bottles. I'll have Sam over too when we do it. He's done his share of stereo installs too. Between the two of us we can knock out everything you got.

DB, don't leave me out! I'll be there as well to help. At some point I'll have to update my old set-up as well. I can at least do the cooking........
Nice system. IT looks alot like mine. Do turn that tube around, you will be amazed at the differance. I only have 4.5" Bazooka tube and it will rattle the car.
One note of concern, you check the base of the A pillar recently. Mine looked alot like that and they were almost gone.
i'll try turning it around and see how it sounds, my original plan was to have it facing side ways in the back of the comparment. still thumps really loud and makes the rear view mirror move though. and yeah the a-pillars on this car arent gone, but they do need help
