This should be an easy one for the die hards. The numbers and letters stamped on a 71 frame, what size? I have a frame that never had numbers or they were cut off. Wondering how much trouble to try and duplicate what the General did.
Thanks
The stamping of this vin derivative used different font style on some characters than the engine pad or trans case. Also the stamping was done by a suspended machine that was air driven and operated manually. The stampings are generally light and not always easily seen or read if the frame has much paint on its surface area where the two stampings ocurred.
I have never seen the stampings on my 2 '71's, although I have looked for them. If there is much dirt/dust/etc on top of the frame surface in the rear wheel well area, it is almost impossible to feel them or see them. So I can't give you an exact letter measurement.

My frame is bare and has just been soda blasted. I know for certain it has no numbers anywhwere. There was also no rust on this frame to eat away at the metal. Thanks for the reply.
Your best bet for trying to recreate this stamping is for you to look at the bare frames that are for sale at both Bloomington Gold Corvettes and Corvettes @ Carlisle events. There, you would have first hand experience looking at the style, size & location of these stampings on the frame.
