Default Yummie ! - Fresh BB Heads !

Picked up the rebuilt heads today. I provided the new comp springs - seals. He did all the machine work and provided ALL new valves. Charged me $395 out the door. Did I do OK or did he kill me! First set of heads I have had re-worked. Ignore the cam and manifolds.....don't even look at em.......

They look really good.

What's that I see behind them? Exhaust manifolds and a cam

Hey - knock it off.....don't be looking at those!

Really though...I had no idea what would be reasonable cost for having these heads worked....If I got my head tore off....someone let me know...gently!

Are those ovals or rects? I had my ovals rebuilt when I put in the new valvetrain a couple of years ago. I bought the valves ($150 for Ferrea) and had springs, seals, etc from the complete comp cam kit I bought. Rebuiilder supplied bronze guides and charged me $250 for machine work and assembly. Only bad thing is, I wish I would have had some rects. rebuilt instead of the ovals I had....

Brett.....sounds like we both got about 400 bucks in some fresh heads. Mine are rects....??....I did not know one was preferred over the other. These are the originals for my LS4 74 Vert.
Being VIN # 00036, I am certain they are 73 "leftovers" .... and I don't know if that makes any difference either.

Which Comp cam did you install and did you see a difference...?....I'm putting a 268H.

Personally, I would have preferred some iron rectangular ports to put on it but they're scarce around here. You'll gain a few horses with the rectangulars over ovals IF you put a better cam in that thing!! I put an XE274 solid in mine and think I would have been better off with the 282, even with the low compression of the shortblock. Of course, if I had put a 282 in it, I'd probably be wanting one of those circle track cams 427hotrod was advising me to get. Is it ever enough?? Send me your email address and i'll send you a sound file of it. Oh yeah, I noticed a difference!! It lost some bottom but it pulls hard to however high I'm brave enough to spin the unknown qualities of that shortblock.
