For my B-Day the wife is going to fund my windshield replacement. Have any of you South Jersey C3 guys had windshield replacements done? What was the going price? Also, I have a new set of windshield moulding clips that I want to install. Will the windshield places do that or should I change them out before I go?
It's not a vette but I had Safelite glass come to my driveway and replace the windshield on my 78 chevy sport van for around $220. I had to make an appointment and it was only a couple days from when I called, mostly due to the weather because the vette is in the garage and I was at work when they did it.I just left the door open for them, they did a great job. I wouldn't just let them do my vette without being there. Oh and they asked about the clips, if I had them or if it was a rubber seal type. It was cheaper b/c I had the rubber seal type.
I have used Diamond Auto Glass in the past. This was not on a Vette, but they did a great job. They even came to my office and changed the glass in the parking lot, very convenient. There price was competitive to other places I other places I contacted. They did a first rate job, no leaks, damage, or problems.
If I were you I would want to be present. It would give you a good opportunity to inspect the windshield frame for any rust. The glass is about $105.00 I installed myself.
This is a project I need to do also. My windsheild is so scratched on a sunny day it is a bear to drive. I was going to remove it myself, who cares if it breaks and then clean everything up and replace clips as needed. Then have them come out and install the glass. I might install it myself as it can't be that hard to do. As long as you have one or two other people this should not be a problem. Doing it yourself or just removing it will give you time to clean up the and make it right. I doubt the installers will do this. They will just slap it back in and put the moldings back on.
