We'll thanks for all of the help over the years. I decided to hang onto the old vette instead of selling it. I figure when I get back from UK/Korea in 3 years I'll still have a vette!
I also told my dad to rebuild that "stock" LS-5 into a 450 HP mill!! Oh and back it up with a 5 speed
Any suggestions for long term storage? I reckon my Dad will drive it once a month or so, except for the winter. Wtih any luck I'll be back in 2-5 years with a nice little stash that I can use to pull the body, restore what I haven't on the chassis, repaint and add the motor/trans combo .....
Thanks again and I'll be checking in on the odd occasion. For all of the overseas vette heads ... I decided against shipping the vette to Scotland as I will be spending alot of time in Korea (building a new drillship) and offshore Norway, UK etc ... However if any Corvette guys are in Aberdeen, Scotland or close I will turn wrenches for beer!!
Hurry up and complete your work over there so they can find us some more oil to lower the gas prices here!! Then your money will go further when you get home.

Chris,
I am based in Edinburgh about 130 miles south of Aberdeen so if you are visting the capital get in touch. In saying that I work abroad myself so I am only back for a week or so every month to 6 weeks, but I'm sure we can work something out. You can get my email from my website which is on my sig below.
If your dad lives in Houston, there is no reason not to drive it in winter at least once a month, too. It isn't like you get 18 inches of snow and 20 tons of salt per mile. Jus tbe sure he takes it out for at least a half hour and not just down to the corner and back.
If you were spending more time in Scotland, you'd like to have it there. I took a trip up through much of it in a Lotus but really wished I had had the Corvette with me.
However, there were not as many places to store them inside like we have in the States, so having it sit outside more isn't really that great.
When I was in Thule Greenland for a year, I put my Vette up on jack stands to get the wheel and tires off of the ground, and I disconnected the battery. But, my one regret after 22 years of service, I didn't get to drive my Vette on the Autobahn. Damn.
Drain the gas out of the fuel bowls, and then tighten up what ever fastener you loosened to drain the fuel. This way years later you won't forget that, say, the fuel bowls are loose.
On a PS equipped car, turn the front wheel to the right as far as you can. This tucks the PS hydraulic ram up inside the body of the hydraulic cyclinder, protecting it from dirt and corrosion.
