Default newbie needs elec. help

wife just bought me a 76 as a project Car has no interior but other that that mechanically sound. Problem is my gauge fuse blows as soon as key is turned. Are there any cronic problems with this year?? Also power windows don't work. Have traced it to the relay but don"t know where the relays is located. This is my first vette and any help would be appreciated

I believe your relay is under the center console. As for the gauge fuse, get the Helms shop manual, and a cheap VOM, and go on the hunt.

Order the '76 AIM. It'll help with the restoration. You're blowing fuses due to a short somewhere in the system, possibly with power window relay.

Can't quote me on this, but the relay might be under the console on a '76. AIM will show you the exact location.

Default Power Window Relay location

The relay is located in the center of the console right under the radio. It's screwed in to ground it so there is no way to get it out without removing the console. I'm sure of this because I just took mine out today. Good luck because it's a bear to get out. I don't think they could have put it in a worse place.

Unplug the alternator field plug. See if the gauge fuse holds.

Easy? No. There are two studs from the center cluster; two nuts to remove.
