I use Armor-all if it's vinyl except for the top dash pad - I use mink oil there. I use Lexol and/or mink oil on leather seats. Never use Armorall on leather. Best place to buy Lexol is at a ranch or feed supply store that sells saddles and other horse tack. You can get a quart for way cheaper than what they charge for a little bottle at the auto parts store.
Did I read on here that Murphys Oil Soap is better on dash and interior than any other product
Probably me, I have posted this before. I've used Murphy's for 30 years on vinyl and leather interiors because it does not contain any harsh chemicals and leaves a natural patina. It keeps the materials soft and I use it annually on every toy and DD I've owned.
I learned about Murphy's when I bought a '69 Firebird back in 1978. The lady that owned the car had used Murphy's every year since the car was new and the interior was in perfect condition when I got it. No tears or cracks and the dash and seats were still pliable. These interiors didn't last that long in daily use. It was her DD with 37,000 miles. I continued using Murphy's for 10 more years on that interior and it was still perfect and pliable when I sold it without the gooey feel and shiney appearance. Photo below of the 19 year old interior when I sold it. Based on that experience and other interiors I've cleaned with it since, I'm a believer in Murphy's.
What is good to use on rubber pieces? like hoses, boots, etc. Think Murphy's would do same job as does on vinyl etc?
I like Meguiar's Rubber Treatment or silicone spray on those items, just my personal preference. I have never thought of using Murphy's on those items probably because Murphy's is more labor intensive than spray and wipe products. Might be worth a try.
Hey Al,
I've just put a new interior in my '75 and I'd rather not use any of the silicone based dressings. Where do you buy Murphey's? I'd like to give it a try.
Best,
Greg
For rubber hoses and plastics inside the engine compartment on my snowmobile I use WD40 and wype with a rag. returnes the parts to black and lubricates the rubber.
