A/C Evaporator Assembly

I got the assembly ready to work on over the weekend, but only quickly looked at the unit. It seems there is a panel that is rivited on.
Also - I want to do the C4 blower motor upgrade.....
BTW - how in the heck does all that debris get in there?
I was thinking that it got sucked up from the interior side of the system?
Durango and a couple others have posted pics of the C4 fan upgrade, do an advanced search, pretty much just a spacer install kind of thing.
Do you have pics of where you are on the thing?
I just did mine, was pretty easy, the box bolted on from the firewall side except for 2 screws from the inside. There are w few screws that hold the 2 box halves together. I blew off the $50 seal kit and made my own for about $10 in home depot weather strip.

Look at the crap that was in there !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll bet 65% was blocked by debris and maybe 20% was TOTALLY stopped up with black gunk. And FYI - I did not move any of it around - that is actually how it was.... That is a Mallor Pkg label that looks like really old. I wonder if an animal (rats) could have crawled up in thru the drain hold and maybe started nesting in there... boy I bet if they did, they got their ars burnt when Mr Big Block heated up.. heeheeThat said - I wanted to state that if this evaporator worked MAYBE at 30% efficiency and the rest of the system was maybe 60% at best, we are talking 30% of 60% - which is really bad. Now that I have seen this - I would assume the basic Corvette A/C system will work just fine - if it is just clean and done correctly..... I mean REALLY done correctly.
I have some (3) holes in the housing - will have to fix, along with a bit of rust on the riveted backing.
Upon re-assembly, I plan to cover the drain hole - see pic. At first, I thought of a screen on the inside of the casing, but since another CF member advised that the leaves come in from the wiper assembly area, I will not do this. Instead, I plan on a screen on the outside, with a rubber hose or darinn line if you will. My friend said that his 72 Cutlass came with a flexible rubber hose that was round on the one end attaching to the drain and then kinda closed or smashed flat at the end - I will not tell you what he described it to look like
I erroneously thought I had to drill out some rivets to take the 2 'halves' apart. Rather - the halves came apart with the riveted backing on one half. I see where I could and may have to take it apart based on teh fact that I have a bit of rusting going on - but I believe JB Weld may come to the rescue.
Check out the evaporator - do ya think that is original?
Also - I see a part on my heater vent box (interior side) that needs some plastic fixed - what is good for this? I need to mold or add a lip back in an area of about 1.25" x 0.5".
