BLASPHEMY! chrome bumber on late model...
just curious. anyone ever try this or know if it's possible to switch out the plastic bumpers on the late models for the early 68-72 chrome bumpers?

Just like fake boobies. Nice to look at, but fake none the less. Conversion may cost more than a set of DD's.

To make it look good it would require skills and a lot of glass work. quickest way is to get a front clip, and probably modify bumper extension bars from the frame extension. Not worth all the trouble and time and $$$$$$$ in my opinion. A plastic bumper is cool in it's own way.

Someone seems to ask this every two or three weeks. The search button is there for a reason - it will tell you "no" in about 457,000 ways.

Why do people keep spelling bumpers with a "b"???
Is "bumbers" a term thats used in other parts of the country?

thanks. thought i could save a few bucks (of course) and get the classic look. guess not. i do agree though, the fiberglass does have a sleekness of it's own.
and btw - "bumber" was a typo. that's all.

Honestly, I have run into a growing number of people who prefer the look of the rubber bumper models over the early years.
Personally I like em both.....My first choice would be a 70 big block, but Even if I had one I would still keep my 76.
If you changed from rubber to chrome you would constantly be explaining and making excuses for your car.

Fake? what? like the chrome bumpers on a chrome nose actually offer one iota of protection?
Chrome door moulding offers as must collision resistance

Someone posted a 78-82 vette with a bumper conversion a while back, I can't seem to find the pictures now
The car looked out of place, kind of like a grey haired man wearing a dark brown toupee.....nothing matched up.
But if you did this conversion to a 74-77 it would look pretty good
But like a few others said after the money spent on making a hybrid you could have bought the real thing
