you do need the insulation it will stop drafts and noise while driving, as to the price and catalog where did you find them, i was told no one made it and was unavaible
I bought the rubber coated original looking firewall insulation for my 71' Big waste of money in my opinion. It is 35 year old technology and I'm sure that any one of the new generation types (Dynomat etc) would work far better. I bought mine about 3 years ago and I think I paid $250 for it. At that time, there was only one guy repoing it. Had to wait over 2 months for it.

I ripped that junk out...
and went with this...That original dash insulation is junk (IMHO)
Was that a kit, or did you cut the pieces to fit? Did you put the insulation up and under the dash pad or up to the lip of the dash? What did you use to glue it down, and did you have any problems with carpet fit? I will be installing a new dash & interior in a week or so, Thanks.

I used the Dynamat Extreme bulk pack, cut it to fit, and covered up to the lip just below the windshield. I worked around the big duct box on the passenger side (whatever that thing is called). I did'nt replace the insulation, I considered it useless with all the dynamat. Dynamat Extreme is self adhesive (it is super sticky, once you put it down it is on there and good. Then I put Dynapad on top of that. Dynapad has to be glued, I used auto carpet glue and it stuck fine. Carpet, new seats and door panels go in this week. It was a much easier job with the front, back, and door glass out fo the car. I don't expect any carpet fitment problems, based on the info from the forum I should be fine.

as far as the grommets go, i slit them with a razor knife to insert the cable, and use a thin coat of grease on the angled side that passes thru the firewall. i guess that's cheating, but i don't think much water is going to leak past a slit.
Yea, according to the manufacturer. We'll see how it works out. I paid $250 for 3 bulk packs of Dynamat extreme and $210 for three Dynapads. A bit pricey, but I'm currently driving in Thailand where its practically 90 degrees year round and very humid. My a/c was struggling to keep the interior cool.
It took 3 packs of the Dynamat? I see it for $270.00 ea. pack online. Where did you get it from? How thick is it with the mat and pad? I assume that you will be laying carpet over that? Let us know how the fit goes as you get it in there.

No pics but I used The Insulator. It comes in a 2' wide 6' long roll and it takes two. Mine starts about half way up the firewall & goes underneath the seats. Plus the driveshaft tunnel. I used 3M spray adhesive Super 77 to lay it down. Now this stuff is only $15 a roll so I'm sure it's not near the level of Dynapad but it still made a big difference with heat transfer. Carpet fit was ok too. Whatever you use though will still be alot better than what came in these things from the factory.................

I got the dynamat extreme and dynapad via ebay. The seller was hifi sound connection (www.hifisoundconnection.com). They sold me the dynamat extreme bulk pack for $84 bucks each and the Dynapad for a little less than that each. Recommend you visit their website. The mat is pretty thin (1/8in) and the pad is 1/2in) so roughly 5/8in of padding underneath the carpet. Carpet will go in as soon as I can get my new truflex bumper squared away. My complete project is on the tech forum under thread "restoration project bangkok."

iksterx -- that dynamatt job looks ****-hot! Very nicely done; well worth the effort.

Thanks Crunch, I was getting desperate after sweating my sack off last summer...hopefully this will fix the problem, plus the refurbishment of my a/c. Ike

Well as a matter of fact we are carrying on the ForumStore, and have a couple in stock for 70-72's
thankfully it seems that everytime a manufacturer discontinues one item, theres another item someone else is making that has previously been unavailable or hard to get.
