My plans have been to buy the correct books and do the homework on a matching numbers 1970 454/390/auto/air car that I bought out of college. I believe the car to be a true survivor having bought it from a 80+ year old man and being the 3rd owner. I know the carb isn't correct (and so far, that's all!) but I just found a correct carb on ebay (alledgedly - and I hate ebay cause I've been screwed before). So, with time ticking away; what code would I be looking for?
Your looking for a 7040204 FF stamping on the carburetor body. A date code should be a 3 digit number such as 067 for a early car, 291 for a late car, this date code is based on a julian calendar system, ie: 001 = Jan 1st, 365 = Dec 31st, so on.
If you have a California car the carburetor stamping should be a 7040504 FR.

Thanks to all.
Also, what books do I need for my research?
Thanks again,

"Corvettes By the Numbers" is a good start....good luck
That's the number I found! The price is $785 but it's been fully restored (including dichromate finish) by a guy in Illinois I ran across on ebay. I'm scared to death of ebay even though he has a 99.7% positive feedback, so what would are you guys thoughts? It's actually priced cheaper than I had feared, but still alot of money.
