Cool man, have a good time with the Vette and the date. My girlfriend's prom is in a couple of weeks, and we're probably taking the vette too. Make sure to get pics with the car!

Dude, I hope it was a blast. I bought my 73 vette in 04 which was my junior year in high school. 4 weeks after I bought it I took it to prom...in the rain! It was definitely an experience. This post really made me laugh because I dealt with the same issues. It rained HARD that night and it was the first time I had my car out in the rain. It was also the first time i had experienced the car kicking out sideways when I was turning. My date screamed and I almost pooped my pants....but i did think it was kind of cool haha. My date had to put a towel on her shoulder by the door because the rain was coming in through the back of the window. Also, anytime I accelerated the rain came in from the back of the T-tops.

It was a blast and I was lucky to have a girl who absolutely loved old cars and though the whole experience was super fun. I hope you had a blast man, let us know how things went!

well everyone, things were GREAT, i guess luck had it out for me and it rained, or spritzed for a good 3 seconds, and the rest of the night was clear as a bell, the car ran GREAT i was REALLY suprised, she started RIGHT up even cold, it was so amazing, the only water i had was from the condensation, ill post the pictures as soon as i can, the only thing "bad" was when i tried the heater, all of the dust from the paint shop was still in the ducts and shot all over the inside, including my date, all in all im extremely gratefull that u guys told me to go for it and take the vette, i washed and waxed her this morning and the car looks great, again, i got introuble for being home late, i was told 2 and made it home at 4, o well, its my first and last prom, who cares right?

And to think I went to the Prom in a 56 Crown Vic Rolled and pleated inside, flippers, stick shift, (More about that later 3x2's man that was nice except I tore the cluster gear out speed shifting on the way home.

Next day on the side of the road pulled trans and put another one in it.

Wife said I am getting senile, that was our wedding night when the transmission went out.

Three times I can remember faced with driving off to something in the rain.

1. I went to some friends' wedding once, sans date, and it was looking like rain. I took the Corvette anyway. Yes, it rained during the wedding, but it got me worthwhile attention. While at the reception at his parents' house, a few of us were outside talking so I grabbed a chamois and wiped off the water. Looked After dropping off this young lady, I dropped the top on the way home and ran about 120 over Poplar Street bridge back across the Mississippi. A car would have not accomplished any of that.

(with all these Ramblers, you'd think I was in Wisc.)

2. Headed from Illinois to Jonesboro, Ark to visit my sister. Forecast was rain, but I took the '68 anyway. I was very glad I did. I hit about 75 miles of rain on the way down and ran into about 50 miles of rain on the way back, which got me top down. I ran about 40 of that with the top down until I stopped for gas. But I had a blast with it down there, doign things I could have never done in a car. I was very glad I had the Corvette with me, rather than a car.

3. Last space shuttle before Challenger was set to launch, and I decided to run up to see it. Got up at 4, got ready to leave at 4:30 and discovered it raining. I had just washed and waxed the Corvette yesterday, and sure didn't want to get it all wet and dirty so fast. With no break in sight on the rain, I jumped in and blasted up I95 to Cocoa, rain pouring down heavy. By the time I was there, the shuttle launched into a clear dark sky broken by the rising sun and made you just feel great to be alive. I spend quite a bit of the day up there running around, along the beach and all. Taking a car would have ruined the whole day. I'd have never gotten this picture.

Drive the car and save the Corvette for a future generation who may not have a single appreciation for it, or make the day (night) one to remember?

It isn't a hard decision.

Wow I never thought I see a Gremlin again, but 2 parked on the same side of the street? now thats priceless. Take the vette you will be the most popular one at the prom. Heck you may end up going home with 3 wemen once they see the vette.

I always drive the Vette when it rains. It handles pretty well--or maybe I'm just used to it?

The other day, I put my wipers on fast and one of them flew off...that was a little scarey.

After we did a bunch of body work, I kept getting little pieces of fiberglass to come through my heating vents. It was crazy.

Years ago, on the way back from Hershey, a friend talked me into a little side trip a bit out of our way, to Kenosha, WI, to pick up some old car parts. He was doing some trading some old Hudson and Nash parts, I think.

I swear, when we got there, it seemed like every other car was a Rambler.
