Default 72 chassis restoration pics

I started my project last October. I had planned to finish the restoration in about a year, but things are moving very fast. I tried to do as much homework as I could before starting and this board has been a huge help.

Some major things I learned:

Using an engine hoist to lift the body can be very dangerous.
Cheap bolts can cost you a lot of money.
PowderCoating does not conduct electricity.

This is what started the whole thing. I knew I was going to have to refresh the chassis. I pu the car on ramps and hit the underside with a power washer. All the grease and grime was holding the car together so now everything leaked.

thanks GTR1999!!

so the story is, I tried to lift the body by myself. The hoist was not centered and I should have removed more weight from the front end. As I was lifting, the back of the car was scraping against the gas tank, but I didn't think anything of it.Also, I could see on of the lift legs raising up off the ground. Again, I just kept crankin on the lift As soon as the body cleared the gas tank, the car shot forward and the nose rammed into my tool box. If the tool box wasn't there the body would have gone into my bathroom and possibly fell over onto me. I ofcourse ran like hell when the car started moving, but still not cool. There is a support post in the center of my garage and the lift leg was pinned against the post preventing the hoist from slipping out the back. so now the car is in the air, the lift arm is bent to heck, andthe nose is firmly pressed against my tool chest.

After having the body nearly shoot into my house and on top of me and doing this

I did this.....live and learn

new chassis almost ready for bench test

Thanks to all those who have helped me out

Looking pretty darn good IMO. Too bad about the crack though. Oh well live and learn. Keep the pics coming.

I went through a few emotions when it happened. I forgot the most important thing when working and I could have been seriously hurt. I called a tow truck (great guy) and we strapped the hoist trunk to the garage beam support post. Once that was secure, we hooked the top of the hoist arm to his tow wench and pulled the hoist back up on it's legs. I didn't take any pics of the car hanging in the air. I should have but I felt like such a dumba$$ I didn't want to have a picture of it.

Thanks or the comments.

I'm not too worried about the fender crack. I'll get the body work done later. Eddie70, if I'm lucky the paint will come out looking like yours....that's a sweet paint job!

here's some more pics

Even got my wife involved in the project. She used carbon paper to trace the "stingray" on the shafts. After it was how she wanted, she free handed with a metallic pen.
