So... A certain Bird tells me you got an engine working and all backtogether this weekend? I also hear it's a white-knuckle ride...

Sounds like the two days of hard work paid off. Wish my heater core had gone as smooth, but then again I didn't have the magic mentor looking over my shoulder this weekend!

Yes - The Big2Bird struck again. All I can say is my car runs REALLY great. I'm late replying to this thread cause I've been out putting miles on the car.

I really don't have any good "before" pictures but here is how it turned out yesterday.

Started out one month ago after buying the car in February. Was going to rebuild the carburetor and freshen up the distributor only. Decided to send the carb to Lars - no brainer for me there. Had met Jeff, Big2Bird, here on the forum and he offered to help me out with the distributor.

New cap, rotor, points, condenser, vacuum advance control unit valve, re-shimmed, new advance curve kit springs and stop bushing, new tach drive cross gear thrust washer and nylon button, new gromet, lead wire and coil wire, and new Paragon hardened distributor mainshaft.

Look at the nice job Jeff the bird did.

While the carb and distributor were off the car the bird said bring the intake manifold over and we'll media blast it and clean it up. When the manifold came off we found the timing set needed replacement. Off came the balancer, water pump, timing cover and oil pan - all to get media blasted and repainted.

Oh yeah, might as well do the exhaust manifolds also.

The Big2Bird calling for help!

Big2Bird says as long as we are here we gotta replace main seals.

Also replaced:
Spark plugs, plug wires, oil and filter, thermostat housing and gasket, hoses, heater hoses, vacuum hoses, timing set, both main seals, oil pump shaft and for good measure the A frame dust seals.

Anyway, we worked all day Saturday and 1/2 day Sunday and got it running like never before. Here is how it ended up looking and it runs even better!

Thanks Jeff!

PS. Note to Self, RE: "The Bird"

All done and had the car running great in the garage - Bird says "lets go for a test drive" - I want to be nice so I say "you go ahead and drive it first." Bird jumps in drivers seat, looks at me and says "buckle up." I say "wait a minute!" Bird proceeds to do a huge burnout all the way down my block and around the corner, white smoke everywhere!

We go around the block and back to the house where Bird jumps out and says "here, you drive it while I clean up my tools".

I start out down the road and my cell rings - it's the Bird telling me that a cop just went by the house and is headed in my direction.
