Default Mid-Life Crisis

Hello! I'm new to the Corvette Forum and am an owner of a '75 Corvette Coupe with T-tops. I'm in receipt of the front spoiler, and am completely baffeled as to how it's supposed to be mounted. When laying it up against the lower valance, none of the holes line up. Are you supposed to remove the valance before trying to install? Sure would appreciate somebody that will straighten me out with something that's surly simple to do, but I'm drawing a blank!!!

You should post this in the tech section. Also, are you talking about the 78' style spoiler or the small chin spoiler?

From what I was told and read, some spoilers use the same bolts as the front bumper, but what spoiler do you have?

I am talking about the chin spoiler, part number A2993 that fits the '73 thru '79 I just received from Eckler's in Florida. I think there is something missing on the lower valance, 'cause the two holes that are at the rear of the valance are at and angle, and I don't see what they connect to. Thanks for the info, and I'll look for the "tech" section so I don't anger that other guy any more than he already is.......

pm a moderator to just move the thread to the tech section, you will get more help there. it really isnt a big deal. most everyone is here to help and learn. there are a few exceptions as you have seen already. just take the morons such as bogart8665 with a grain of salt or ignore them all together. dont feed the hostility, it just snowballs and that is what some people who post like that want. in time they will go away or get kicked off eventually.

I figure I'll help this guy rather than bi*** him out for posting in the wrong section.

I had one of those spoilers on my car for a while until I got my 3-piece Pace Car one, it bolted right to the same holes that hold the valance on, so remove all the back ones first. The two big holes on the rear/angle up part bolt to the radiator support, bolt those two up loosely first then the other ones should line right up. (You have to remember that these cars had factory "variances" of up to 2-3 inches on some body panels, so repro parts are seldom exact-fitting).

Your's is the first response that I've not thought of. I've been trying to mount it towards the FRONT of the valance, in which case, the holes do not line up. Doing it that way, those two rear holes hang out in mid-air and that's what is confusing. I will try this in the a.m. after it stops raining!!! again, thanks alot for your response!!!

I just read your PM and also the one from Star79. Yours does not look anything like what I got from Eckler's, but after reading his answer, I'm gonna do what he suggests in the a.m, after it stops raining here in California. Thanks alot for giving me your PM I really appreciate it!!!

I've done what you've suggested, and the only stupid question that I have now, is do you have to drop the back of the valance down after loosely attaching those two rear bolts? When I line up those holes at the BACK of the valance, the rear part of the spoiler is too far away from the support. I'm sorry to have to ask these dumb questions, but I guess that's the only way I'll learn more about my '75 Vette, plus help from people like yourself..........

Here's another view. This IS the spoiler you are dealing but it also has the rubber extensions on it that some 79s have.

You can see half the bolts in the picture above, one of the two rear/upper ones and a few of the attach-to-the-valance-holes ones. Forget about the extension he has on his, it's just a lip he has attached to the exact same spoiler that you have. I dunno why your's is so hard, I bolted mine up in about 10 minutes in the street in front of my house when I got mine Just remember it's really flexible and the holes are kind of elongated so you should be able to get it on.

Here's a blurry pic of how far BACK it will be on your car.
