got my new media blast cabinet set up today,so naturally had to start rippen parts off the vette. all was going fine untill i removed the hood support, there are these little plates riveted inside the hood that the bolts thread into, the one right below the courtesy light, the rivet was broke and the plate fell down anybody have any suggestions on how to fish it out, if i cant what can i do,i have to have a way to put those two bolts back in. HHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPP.

A telescoping magnet might do the trick.

I thought about that but the holes are not very big,and mine would not fit through, wonder about a smaller magnet attached to a string. might work, the hard part will be keeping it in place.

Use a strong magnet OUTSIDE. It's fiberglass.

I don't know if the hood is all the way off, but maybe a different angle on the hood combined with a magnet might do it. In other words, "shake" the piece down to the general location and then use the magnet for the final grab???

now thats a good idea, will have to find a bigger magnet than what i have and give it a try. are those just riveted in place? i thought once i got it back in place i would install the 2 bolts to hold it there while i drilled it out and put in a new rivet, what do you think?

I was thinking something similiar to this. Get the plate in place and put a screw in it to keep there till you finish up and put it back together.

yeah, i think that might be my best bet, i have to have that plate in place to put bolts back in or i could break my hood with only one bolt holding it together. now i just need a bigger magnet, thinking of what i can rob one out of.

Have two or 3 big guys pick it up and tilt it until the plate slides to where you want it, then bolt 'er down.

I was thinking the same thing. get some straps and suspend the hood in the air. Use a large magnet to help the piece move along.
