Default Restoration Progress Update (pics) ... :-)

Well, now I have finished the rolling chasis.
I will weld the exhaust once the body is on this September.
The newest change is the restoration of the drive shaft and half shafts. They were done by Quanta Products.
They do a GREAT job!
I also nabbed a full set of NOS GM Spicer U joints off ebay- got really lucky there.

Looks like final paint mid Aug. and body drop end of Sept.
2 months to put it back together, I might just make Kissimmee in 2008!

Enjoy:

Bill

You plan to paint body on or off frame? What method of stripping are you going with? and what color?

Thanks for the encouraging comments!!

The body will be painted on a car dolly and have the parts attached that would have been attached while being painted at St. Louis.

I removed the original lacquer from the car by DA'ing it. The lacquer was so old and brittle it only took me a week to do the job.

Car will be painted Elkhart green, the original color.

I have had such fun restoring the frame/susp/engine etc.. I may want to do this as a side line of work. :-)))

Are you worried at all about dropping a freshly painted body? How long would the paint need to set up, to avoid stress?

I've been debating how to do mine, i'm thinking of using a huge sheet of plastic and covering the frame, cut out around the body mounts, drop the body, and take it to the paint booth like that, then once done cut away the plastic.

I've had a lot of fun throughout this frame off as well, a lot of obstacles, challenges, and by far has been an excellent learning experience. After tackling a project like this and enjoying it, I'd do it over for some $$$ as well

Here's where i'm at on mine, posted this a week ago if you missed it.
I have everything on the engine now, just waiting on headers/sidepipes to come in.

The body will sit nearly a full 4-6 weeks - I hope.

Not to worried about cracking the paint- I will use the lifting bridal (made for a Vette) and the car will be supported from the nose as well as the door area.

The guy who is doing the paint work wanted to paint the car on the frame - I basicaly told him no. To get by the NCRS guys the frame has to be 100% free of over spray from body color and from the blackout operation (this was done before the body drop).

BTW .. you car looks great!

good luck with yours.

Excellent and very detailed restoration. You should be proud of the work you have accomplished. Any pics of the body in its current state?

Thanks everyone !!!

Been lots sof fun so far.

Stan:
I have an extra set NOS of 4spd head pipes and a NOS driver's side mid pipe, 2.5".

Ended up with them while buying the set for my car. You know anyone that may be interested in the pipes? Figured I ask before putting them on eBay ...

SkyHigh82:

The shafts were restored by Quanta Products. They are from Michigan I think. The cost was 175 for drive shaft and two half shafts.
You have to send them without U joints in.

takes about 2-3 weeks to get done.

EXCELLENT service and workmanship
