No sealer. Go dry. Take a quick look at the bushing inside front pump. If worn they will cause leaks too. It's not hard to change really, but you have to split pump in half. Take it apart, check gears, replace bushing and then make an alignment tool out of a couple of big hose clamps to align it all..then tighten it back together.
I just finished stuffing all the innerds back in my 200 and the book nor the video called for any sealer
Same for the TH350 so I think it's safe to say that it's the same for the TH400. Bit of a pain too because the gasket on the 350 is round and wants to turn as you align the bolt holes. Had to cut the heads off a couple of bolts and use them as locator pins.
Smart or no so smart, I elected not to install the front pump gasket... and that was after running across town to get it I just did not want to get into the tranny, as I will have soooo many items to check once I get running. plus a 200 is in my future
the front pump gasket is not that tough to change. Getting the old one off can be. Razor blade and lots of time. New bushing will help prevent any leaks and possible vibration problems. If you decide to change it, be sure and watch the oring. There's stripe to make sure it's not rolled or twisted. And also make sure the gasket is not covering any holes, but is around all of them. Then a thin bead of red loctite around the OD of the fron seal.. cut the heads off a couple of 5/16 bolts and use them for guide pins. Lube the whole thing with vaseline, drop it in and go..
