Default C5 Mirrors for a C3?

Has anyone installed C5 or C6 outside mirrors on a C3 (1977)? I am looking to change the mirrors and these are the only set that I think will look good on the '77.

Any info will be appreciated.

I hate to be a pain, but I have searched the forum without any luck in finding a thread on C5/C6 mirrors installed on a C3.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Here's a pic of a car with C5 mirrors: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/phot.../ppuser/173141

I know there is more information hiding on here, I'll dig around some more.

Would that be jcgodale3? I always thought that was a nice looking car. As many times as I looked at it, I don't remember seeing those mirrors. I would think C5 mirrors would look good on the C3 also.

Red 69, is that your Vette with the Aurora mirrors? If so, what did you have to create to mount them? Are they controlled by a switch? They look good and it is a tough call between these and a C5 mirror. It looks like the Aurora ones are mounted further out than the C5 mirror in the above picture.

Thank You.

Those are Aurora mirrors. Most people don't install the electronic controls, but I'm going to. I have the wiring diagram if you need it. Getting the Aurora controller out is the worst part - it's under the driver's seat, and I think GM installed those seats using magic. It took me about two hours to get the controller free. If you can find a 97 Aurora, they have a really cool "reverse droop" feature on the mirrors - shift into reverse, and the mirrors turn down so you can see curbs easier. Unfortunately, the only ones in my favorite junkyard were 95s.

No...I can't make claim to the car attached to the Aurora mirrors. I don't recall the forum member's name, but remember him saying they helped see over the rear tire hump. I would have to think Aurora mirrors would be relatively inexpensive compared to C-5 mirrors. If Batman can help with the remote control wiring, the installation is a very attractive option. Take plenty of pic Batman!!

Thanks guys. Batman, do you envision mounting them as they appear on the dark red Vette? It appears that the mount is too far in front, but it could be the angle of the picture. Please keep us posted with your progress.

Junkyard power mirrors have gone up in price a bit, but they have to be less expensive than the Corvette parts. I had a pile of spares for my old Talon bought in the late 90s at less than $20/ea. The same junkyard charged me about $60/pr. for the Aurora mirrors. The control module and switch was about another $20 or so, I think. I've hooked mine up using the wiring diagram for a text, and they work fine.

EJC, I'm not sure what you mean by the mount being too far in front. They're forward of the mount points for the stock position, but the pylons sweep back rather than straight out like the stock sport mirrors. The glass looks to be in about the same position as the stock sport mirrors. I've looked at the way the doors open, and the pylons won't hit anything. That section swings in quite a bit.

Looking forward to following your progress. Started looking at ebay for the 97 Aurora mirrors, waiting for seller response as they are all listed as 95-99 mirrors.

You don't need 97 mirrors, just the control module. The mirrors were the same.

Thanks Bats. There is a set on ebay for 69/each mirror. I am assuming taking them apart to paint them should be "do-able"?

I just looked at mine, it appears that the head/pylon fasteners are under the glass. I think they could be painted as one piece without much trouble, though.

It appears the pylons (stems) can't mount with screws from the outside, so does it use studs or screws from the inside? There isn't much room between the door frame and glass in that area, so is there a trick to mounting them?
