There are 4 lights on the back of the 76 I have. The 2 outside lights work when the brake pedal is mashed (southern term for pressed!).. or when either turn siginal is set.
The 2 inside lights do not come on except when the car in in Reverse for the back-up lights.
Question: Should the inside lights come on when the brake pedal is pressed. If not, when.
Seems a bit of waste really. Before I take my car home, I have to convert it so that it has separate, amber indicators - as opposed to the tail/brake/indicator lights all being behind one lense. You can guess what the inside lights will become...
The inside set are backup lights and should have red lens with a white center for the backup lights. Sounds like you have outer lens on the inner lights.

Actually, the inner lights have the white part for the back-up lights. It just seemed odd to me that those did not serve as brake lights too. Thanks for all the info.

They did on the '68s!!!! They do on my '80 because I installed the bubble lens conversion.
If you can live without backup lights and want all four to light up in the rear, get the conversion kit.
