Default speedometer cable location

i found the clip under the dash to unhook the speedo cable but i was wondedring if yall could tell me where it runs to. while i was under the car, a 76 vette, changing the oil yesterday i noticed a cabled that looked like the speedo cable that was fried. it was about a foot behind the oil pan towards the back of the car. thats where it plugged in. is that the speedo cable? also, i bought a new cable from corvette america and i was wondering if im going to need 2. ive read somewhere that you might need an upper and lower cable. i havent pulled the cable out of thr box but from what i can see it doesnt look long enough. any answers will be great.1-is the cable i see the right one, 2-is the cable i bought from corvette america the only cable i need. thanks guys

If you have cruise control, there should be 2 cables. 1 from the tranny to the cruise control unit in the engine bay. Then one from there to the speedo. (a short cable) If no cruise conrol, then 1 long cable (it goes through the firewall just behind the drivers side valve cover) The cable your seeing under the car should have a square ended cable coming out of the end of it.

Sorry no one else chimed in here. Yes, the grommet can be re-used. It is the one that goes in the firewall. The cable actually runs over the top of the bellhousing of the tranny then down the passenger side of it to the input. There are usually clips on the belly of the car that it clips into. Hope this helps
