Default Need help with Ignition Shield installation

Could anybody give me some feedback on installing an Ignition Shielding set up on a 73 - 350CI? Tech Articles, illustrations, pictures, or whatever.

I've got: (All the items that a Corvette America rep said I would need)
1. Top Chrome Shield
2. L&R Top Shield brackets
3. L&R Chrome Vertical Shields
4. Square sparkplug wire grommets
5. Chrome wingnuts
6. J-nut for R Chrome verticals.
(No instructions)

I'm thinking, after looking at a complete Kit at Corvette Central, that I still need some shield brackets that are bolted to the intake manifold??

Any help would be appreciated.

On my 70, there are 2 brakets bolted to the intake. The shielding attaches to those brackets. I don't know if yours is the same. Let me know if you want me to take a pic.

Here is what they look like. The small end goes onto the intake through the last intake manifold bolt. One on each side.

that is how the brackets mount on the manifold. I have the chrome shields somewhere too, but they're such a pain to get in place and straight, especially with my replacement washer pump and the ignition wires as high as they are.

Thanks Chris - Are those orange brackets shown in your picture bolted directly to the intake manifold?

The AIM shows installation of all the shielding, plug wire routing, grommets and brackets, wingnuts, etc. Brackets shown above mount the distributor can and bolt to intake manifold. Two other brackets not shown in the pic mount on the block below the two shown for wire routing and vertical shield attachment. Way down under on the block are the left and right V shields.

Mike,
Thanks for the info. Can you tell me where to find the AIM you mentioned?

Thanks Smokin, but for some reason it seems like the big block installation is simpler than for the small block.
If you get time though, a picture might help.
Thanks again.

plum, assembly manuals available at any Vette parts supplier, and ebay!!!! Big block (69 at least) only had shield around distributor, not the PIA ones around the plugs..............................
Also to clarify, uprights don't BOLT TO the intake, they are held in place by 2 intake to head bolts, kind of misleading the post before. You have to remove intake bolts to put those 2 brackets on.................B

All the aftermarket providers carry the AIM (assembly instruction manual). Order one for your year. Best deal includes a three ring binder for the AIM (pages are punched for the binder). You can also get AIMs off eBay.

Order a reproduction owner's manual while you're at it. If you have an original, put it up in a safe place and keep the repro in the car.

I jumped in and did it today with a few modifications. Look at pics of before and after, and tell me what you think.
Thanks to ALL for your feedback!

I had quite a challenge figuring out the shielding for my car since it did not have any shielding on the car when I bought it I took a few pics for just this reason while the engine was out. Hope this helps - it's not obvious

That looks good.

Did you also get the rubber grommets for the spark plug wires that go into the bracket. These have 4 holes in a square piece of rubber that will help to separate the wires.

Thanks kdf. Yes, I got the grommets - a little tight for the 8mm plug wires though.

What I would like to know if it really works? Does it cut down on ignition noise getting into the stereo? I have a slight ignition tick on FM and cannot even try to listen to AM. If it cuts the noise down some I'll think about getting some but if it makes no differance then I can spend my money on better things I need. I have to mention that my ignition is not stock. MSD 6AL box, blaster coil and billet MSD tach drive distributor.
Thanks
