Default Hot Rod Corvettes

I have had old cars for 40 years. First new car was a 1964 427/425 Ford fastback. I bought my first Corvette in 1976. 1964 red con. One thing I learned is if you buy a hot rod car/modified you have better not expect the next guy to like it. Best to stick with A origional car. Cost the same to restore eather way, It's just the way it is. It's hard to sell a custom car. That's my thought. Buy a origional car one day you will want to sell it. KEN

I am a NCRS member. You can have a 57 chevy custom or a stock restored car. the stock car will bring more money. You can spend 50,000 on a custom car & you will not get your money back. that's all I am saying. I see a lot of people here that think that the car all tricked out will bring a ton of money. NOT

I would be surprised if anybody here would argue that an original Corvette is worth more then a modified one. As long as I've been here I haven't noticed anybody with a modded car bragging about it being worth more. But I do know there are a lot of people on here who buy their cars to enjoy, the way they want them. To each his own. Not everybody buys a Corvette as an investment. And that being said, I'm glad there are those like the NCRS members who preserve the finer cars.

It may not be worth more, and I certainly will never recoupe my investment, but it sure will be a lot more fun to drive!

I guess if I tried to put a price on the pleasure it will bring me when done, maybe I will recoupe my investment.

Oh no, you did not start this thread, it aint about the stupid money, it's in your blood from birth. Want to know how much a Vette is worth, just add up the thumbs up while driving, or which car gets more looks at a car show, or which one someones daughter wants to ride in, priceless....All are great, but none are better than others..

I've been down both roads, restored a '71 LT1 and was afraid to drive it anywhere. Had modded street Vettes and racers. I'm probably the only one in the hobby for 30 years that HASN'T made money. My next street car? Modded widebody that will run with a Z06. Will I get my "investment" back? Dumbfounded look on a Z06 owners face....priceless. /:\

It doesn't cost the same either way. It costs more to properly restore the car to original. Sometimes Way more than the car will ever be worth. So some of those end up hot-rodded, for just a LITTLE less money, at first, then there's the upgrades--- I think I'm about to contradict myself! To each his own!!!

Stock is boring. At a car show, I'll walk past 10 stock cars to get the one owned by a guy with some creativity.

I might respectfully disagree to some extent. My car was originally a 1976 green on green l48, nothing to be desired as corvettes go. It is now Red with black interior, streetable cammed and tunnel rammed engine, with hooker side pipes and cragars. If I were to sell it today I'm sure it would bring far more than it would stock. A lot of it depends on the age of the car and how desirable of a package it was from the factory. I also think its way more money to build a correct original car than a modified car.

Stock cars are just plain and simply boring to myself probably most. Fact of the matter is without modifications most of these cars potential is just locked away and can be outperformed by modern run of the mill imports. I will go further to say that buying any old car as an investment with rare exception is just plain foolish. I would counter your agrument by stating that it is better to buy one modified for less then modify it to suit your tastes and performance requirements. I don't know what I would do with an all original stock car other than just sell it and get something I actually enjoy to drive.

Flame away

The value of our Vettes on the open market is compleatly relative to what it was from the factory versus its current condition. A modded L-88 is worth less than a restored L-88. A modded base engine, auto, no special option, car is worth more than an equivelant restored car. Both examples of course assume proper restorations, and well-done, tastefull mods. Over the top or unusuall mods hurt value too much, it's hard to find a buyer with similir tastes in those cases (supply & demand economics).

I plan on a 3500 stall, big gas guzzleing cam and carb, just to go driving down the street on sunny days.
I just installed headers two days ago and already been rattleing windows flying down city streets with no exhaust!!!!!!!
