Default 69 BB Factory Sidepipe's

I have a 69 BB Corvette that i have removed the Hooker pipes and have gone back to original.I bought new muffler's but found out they are for a 70-74 BB Corvette and i can't return them.As you can see by the pic's that once attached to the manifold the driver's side end's up about a foot away from the rear mounting point, the passenger side is fine. Can anyone with a 68-69 BB Corvette with factory sidepipe's please measure the driver's pipe from the manifold to the muffler or take a pic because i think i need to cut the straight that goes under the frame and lengthen it.

Hey,

One issue that you will have is the inlet pipe size. Factory BB 69 cars had a pipe that started at 2.5" but then had a welded 2" pipe to the muffler. I think you will have clearance problems in the front using the 70-74 BB pipes.

As ar as being out of whack that bad - doesn't make any sense unless someone cut the front pipe or messed around with the orientation.

I also remember hearing from someone that the 68-69 BB exhaust manifold on the driver's side had a different outlet orientation than the 70-74 manifolds. The part numbers are not even close for the driver manifold.

Hope this helps some.

Bill

This is the first time I ever heard that there are factory side pipes that are just made for 70'-74' Corvettes. Owning three C-3's a 69'bb,72'SB and my current 73'SB all since 1971 I always understood when ordering factory side exhuast for any of my C-3's from GM you had to order them for the year they were made 1969 for any of the other C-3's you were going to mount them on since the factory never made side exhaust for any of the later year Corvettes past the 1969 model. This was always the case. Did something change with the aftermarket manufacturers of the 1969 side exhaust? The last set of side exhaust I purchased from GM was in 1981 or 82' for my 73' Coupe. I haven't had to purchase them again as of yet from todays sources not being my Chevrolet dealer.

The aftermarket vendors list 70-74 seperate from 68-69 for the pipe/muffler assembly.

The 70-74 use a 2.5" pipe from the manifold to the front of the muffler.
1969 has a 2.5 flange/boltup area welded to a 2" pipe assembly welded to the front of the muffler. Was done that way from Walker for 69 GM cars. Heck - I even think the under car exhaust for all cars (BB too) was 2" in 69.
1968 is a crap shoot - car never came with factory side pipes, so technically you could use either application.

For my 73' back in 81' or 82' I just did what I did previously on the other two C-3's that I owned earlier back in the day and that was to just go over to my Chevrolet dealer and order a set of side exhaust for a 69' Corvette whether it was a BB or SB and that did the trick. Back then as I mentioned in 81 'or 82' I last remembered paying about $550 for a complete set of factory Side Exhaust from Chevrolet and I thought that was expensive then because I remember paying less then half of that price back during the early 70's. A matter of fact I remember paying just $75 a piece for the pipe muffler combo for my 69 BB Coupe back in 71'.

Bill, Thats just like the saying if I had todays newspaper yesterday I would be rich. Back in 71' when I purchased my 1969 427-435HP Coupe I only payed $3100 for the car and it only had 11,000 miles on the odometer still under warranty for 5 years or 50,000 miles. I wish I still had that car and others I owned. You could of picked them up for a song back then they were so cheap but who would of known and you would of needed a place to keep them.
