How To: Power Steering Assembly
I am looking to assemble my power steering parts and I'm not sure of exactly what needs to be done. Besides all the new suspension, I've recently purchased a new P.S. cylinder, P.S. valve, hoses, tie rods & sleeves, and even got the steering box rebuilt. I've "loosely" assembled everything and everything does seem to go together. However, I do have a few questions and would greatly appreciate any help.
1.) How do I realign where the pitman arm goes? Looks like it can index into a few different positions.
2.) Do I need to bench-bleed the valve or cylinder. If so, how? and do I need the P.S. Pump assembled?
3.) How does the rag joint & mating brackets align (steering box to column)? Does anyone have a good diagram. I do have the column completely out and have also purchased a new rubber rag joint.
4.) Is there a certain pre-alignment procedure for the tie-rods? I do plan on taking this to a shop for final alignment when ready.
