Default Need some recommendations on headers

So...

We cut out the old exhaust when we were removing the motor from our Vette, and my dad and I are both going, "We need to get some headers for the car."

The question now, though, is which headers should we go with?

I want something that's going to be a decent header that will actually fit and run UNDER the car, not exit out to sidepipes, that also isn't going to run me an arm & a leg. My dad's been drooling over Hooker headers, but he and I are both in the same boat and don't know which ones are good and which ones have fitment problems (if any)...

Anyone have any recommendations?

I got the Summit brand for $89 bucks.
they fit under the car and fit without denting, but they are not coated.
I like them.

I got Dynomax ceramic coated ones (from Summit). Good price, good fit & (just had a look at them a couple of hours back) the finish is still good after over 3 years use.

I'm running the Hooker Comps. They fit fine, with enough access to the spark plugs to get a socket on them

Just put mine on last Saturday. Passenger side slipped right in with no problem at all. Only thing on driver side was I had to take my Z-bar off (4 speed) to get them in.

Fit and Finish is great for inexpensive headers.

I'm running Hooker Super Comps, ceramic coated. Not cheap but worth the cost I think. Fantastic performance and they sound awesome with Hooker Aero Chamber Mufflers.

I also run Hooker Super Comps that I had ceramic coated after the fact. Both went in from underneath. The starter and clutch Z bar had to come out to get them in, but no fitment problems. Can't comment on spark plug access, I changed the plugs while the headers were off this past winter, never touched the plugs with them on.

I've been told the Hedman Elite are very good quality headers. I'll be running these when I install headers soon.

I don't think that'll be an issue.

The motor's completely out of the car at the moment and in the process of being torn down (Metal chunks were found in the oil) so we were figuring on putting a crate motor in and headers with a new exhaust system. Since the Z-Bar's been pulled for us to pull the engine, I don't think it'll be in the way of the install.

Isn't that 502 a BB? That thing was a MONSTER when I heard it fire over at Good Guys at Del Mar...If so, that means we have to try to fit a BB where a SB used to be, which means possible PS pump changes, hose changes, all sorts of fun. I think he was looking at a 383 stroker...

Not a big deal...and brackets are available at ZIP....only tight spot was header tube next to power steering box...rest went in like it had eyes..

Hooker Super Comps from Jetthot. They were about $500 BUT you get what you pay for.

I bought cheap headers once...

Cheers,

Just instaled Flowtech ceramic coated headers in my 72. I have ZZ4 and the round ports match up well to the D port heads. Removed Z-bar and old starter, (now have mini hi-torque starter, lots of room) and they fit like Zora made them himself. Perfect!

I installed Hedman Elites on my 79 auto. Easy install and didn't even have to drop the starter. Didn't need any different alt or AC brackets either but did have to use a shot piece of pipe as a spacer for the AC bracket. The only gotcha that I ran into was that I needed the "shorty" style of plugs. I love the ball type of header to exhaust pipe socket that don't need gaskets.

I need to buy another C3, parts are so much cheaper. A set of LG longtubes for a C5 are in the neighborhood of $1600
