Default No brake lights

As far as I know the brake lights were fine before I took the interior out. Now that it's mostly back together I have no brake lights. The wires to the switch appear to be connected to the brake pedal. At one point I was up in the wiring disconnecting the clutch safety switch, then later getting it reconnected so it's possible I could have knocked something loose, I just don't know what to look for. I think it's more likely that the problem is under the dash than the bulbs or something else, but I'm open to suggestions. I didn't see any fuses marked brakes, and the other lights work fine.

Check the switch position. Brake pedal has to make contact with the switch in order to turn on the brake lights. Might be as easy as moving the switch a little closer.

It's also possible the switch picked this time to die.

Not sure about your 81', but my 78' has a fuse for hazard/stop lights. There is and orange wire coming from the fuse and goes to the stop light switch. It should be hot all the time. I tend to agree with Easy Mike that the most likly cause is the stop light switch adjustment on the pedal.

Close... The problem was the switch was TOO close and pushing the brake all the way in still made contact with the switch (you let off on the switch to make the brake lights go on). I moved the switch farther out of the bracket so now when the pedal is pushed the switch goes off and the brake lights come one. I'm happy to say I got lucky and the first place I moved it to was just right, didn't need to play around adjusting it to get to the correct spot.

After looking at it I remembered I accidentally knocked it out while taking the interior out (1.5 years ago) and had pushed it back in place too far. I even made a mental note that I needed to adjust it when I put it back together, but it took adjusting the switch to remember.
