I'm not a happy camper today. My Vette has been sitting on jackstands for 3 weeks now because of Stainless Steel Brake Corp. Last fall I bought a kit from them with stainless calipers, pads and new brake lines. I installed them and immediately one of the calipers started leaking. I called them and they said to send it back. Garret (their customer service guy) said that they had a 1 day turn around time on caliper rebuilds. So I boxed it up and sent it to them. It arrived at their facility on 4/25/07. I just called Garret and he said that they still haven't gotten to it. This is It is a beautiful day out, and my Vette is stuck in the garage.
I wouldn't buy from them again if my life depended on it.
When I was looking for new brakes for my '68 project, I called SSBC looking for information about the various kits and to see what kind of parking brake solution they had. I got very impolite and downright hostile answers. Thats fine. They lost me as a customer and everyone I know I tell to go to:
One thing to remember about all of these guys is if they go out of business what do you do for parts? Make sure your dealing with a company that has some kind of track record. Yes, they can go out of business also but chances are less likely.
I have SSB slotted rotors and was thinknig about there calipiers a decided against it. Sorry to here about your mishap, but I feel better about my decision.
[QUOTE=Restorod '79;1560212810]No doubt, if the leaker was a rear, I'd be gettin' some sun and wind!
Great idea. The leaker is the right rear. I only drive the car around town so it rarely goes over 25mph. I don't think it will hurt to drive it with one caliper missing. I stopped at NAPA on my way home and picked up a brass cap for the brake line. She will be back on the road tomorrow.
I remember many years ago when they started in business they were pretty good. Guess they got to big and now they don't need customers any more. Good to know,,,

Well, it's been another week and no caliper. I called Garret on Friday and they had not started on it yet. He said that they would probably get to it on Monday or Tuesday (today). This seems to be their standard answer.
I did cap off the brake line. I drove the car to work yesterday and didn't notice a difference in braking. I thought it might pull to one side but it doesn't. Thanks for the suggestion.
These brake companies all take MONTHS AND MONTHS to honor their warranty. SSBC is no the only one who pulls this stuff. I had the same problem with a different brake vendor.
