I talked to Summit and they recommend a Holly carb fo my new crate motor. They recommend a HLY-09895. Its going on my new crate 290HP motor. Its $385.95.
Jegs recommends a Performance Qudrajet #561-35002. Does anyone have a preference? Its $359.99. Thanks.
For the street a Quadrajet is hard to beat. It might take someone who understands them to properly set it up for your application, but it's an excellent carb.
I'm not sold on Holleys...I think they're resting on their history. They are good performance carbs, but I think Demon is better. Actually I like Edlebrock carbs better for the street. For the track go with Demon, for street use the Q-Jet first choice then the Edelbrock would be my preferences.
In the end, you need to get the carb that best suits your driving needs and style. What suits you may not be best for the next guy.
A great option, though a lot more money...fuel injection. Outside of the added cost, you'll never look back.
If the choice is a vacuum secondary Holley or a Q-Jet, get the Q-jet,..and as stated above, take a bit of time to learn and tune the circuits. You won't be disappointed!
