A lock smith told me that the 68 door and ignition keys are the same? Is this true? As far as I know GM always had 2 keys, one for the ignition and one for the doors and trunk.

WOW, I never expected to be wrong about this one. So doors and ignition are the same. Is it also the same key for the rear storage compartment and spare for that matter?
Each 68 had 2 keys; one labelled "C" and one labelled "D"
The "C" key opened the doors and operated the ignition The "D" key operated the glove box and spare tire lock.
The keys were made by Briggs & Stratton and say Briggs and Straton on them and had the GM logo on them. The aftermarket phony keys do not have this.
They are still available and can be cut using the correct GM die cutter (not a hardware store wheel) and can also be coded with the correct numbers on the knock outs.
The "C" key is octagon shaped and the "D" key is oval shaped. The 69 keys were totally different

I got my originals (not repros) from a guy named Peter Lindahl at pclindahl@comcast.net
505-663-0995
He also rekeyed a tire lock for me that a large local locksmith had for three months and couldn't open.
Pete is outstanding at what he does and he is a Corvette guy
You won't be disappointed with Peter.
