Default Bra question for you guys...

ok...no...not about THAT kind of bra!!!

Actually...I am getting ready to do the Hot Rod Power Tour with the 69. I was thinking of getting a bra for the trip to help with bugs and stone chips since it's going to be about a 1500 mile trip in the 7 days. I hate bras and figured I would just remove it once I get to each venue.
My question is has anyone seen another bra for a 69 or early C3 besides this one by CoverCraft?

Looks ok and it says the following:
Install without tools
"Breathable" vinyl with protective backing
Headlights and hood open freely
Aerodynamically designed -- won't flap or lift
Overlapped seams for durability
Easily cleaned with a damp cloth

Wondering if any of you guys have any input on these and if anyone had used this particular one?
Found it on Corvettesouth.com for 100 bux with shipping.

I just worry about flapping...but I figure if it saves a stone chip or 2, then I can buff/wetsand anymarks out after the trip.

Thoughts???

My Dad has one of those bra's on a 1969, but he doesn't put it on anymore. When he let me drive it, I would put the bra on from time to time. It does fit well with the lines of the car and I do not recall hearing or seeing any flapping of the bra while driving. Before you put it on the car though I would let it sit out (the bra) in the sun for awhile so the vinyl will stretch a little bit. That's the best I can do for now.

Hey Buddy
I used one on my '73 years ago, absolutely hated it. Rubbed and scuffed the front end, as well as looked bad. And anytime its displayed with it on ... but I know you want it just for driving.
I have to assume they are engineered better than when I used it, but never again for me.

Hey...I hear you guys on how they look. I'm not a fan of them at all...but I was thinking just to save the front end. The paint on the car is so nice...so that was why I was thinking to get one.

SBcoupeC3..would you dad want to off the thing? Maybe I can save a few bucks if he wants to unload it since I really only want it for the road trip. Is it the same exact thing...and if he is willing to part with it...ask him how old it is and if he knows if it's a Cover Craft cover.
PM me if he wants to get rid of it. If I put one on for the trip I would need in by the end of next week.

Thanks!

I had one on my car for a short while. It really messed up the paint pretty bad on the nose, not just scuffed it. It would probably be easier to repair stone chips than the mess left behind by the bra.

I bought a 1980 several years ago that had that same style bra on the front. It did go on and off easy enough, and it was very functional. However, the previous owner had run the car with it on for quite a while. When I removed it the first time, I found that it had not only worn through the paint, but it had actually worn a slight groove into the fiberglass.

Keep in mind, this bra had been on there for probabaly years though.

I would think if you applied a REALLY good coat of wax, and only used the bra while on this drive, you would most likely be OK. Be prepared to use some wax or compound on it after you remove the bra though.

hmmmmm...I would like to hear more.
Were talking 7 days, 1500 miles and not on the car the whole time.
Do you guys really think I can mess up the paint that much worse than stone chips? I plan on driving the car anyhow and it's not trailer queen...I bought it to use it... but just figure I would use the bra for this trip since I don't know what I am in for but I'm kinda torn on it. It's one of those that the first stone chip I see I am gonna say &*%#! But then again if the bra ends up doing the same thing then I'll still say &%^$#!!!!!

Again,

I think if you prepare your car with a good coating of protective wax first, you should be OK for that distance. You may need to re-wax the area once you remove the bra, but ultimately I think you will be OK.

We drive from Seattle to Napa every year, about 1,000 miles each way, and any damage that's occured from stone chips is far less than what I've seen a bra do in that amount of time. I would let it breath.

I would say I agree on a car like Vet76 mentioned...but in 1500 miles? I'm not trying to argue..I just have NEVER used one on any car...but then again for the most part I have never had THIS nice of paint to worry about. Not that this paint is flawless...but it's pretty nice. Plus I have noticed on a 2005 Bonneville GXP that we own, that with such a sloped hood we have had 2 REALLY bad stone dings in the hood. The first one was so bad it dented the hood and paint was bare metal. (must have been a small bolder) So I fix that one and now I give it a good spring cleaning last weekend and ANOTHER one that's not AS bad but down to metal! Wife mostly drives that car so maybe she is up peoples azzes....lord knows she can be up mine!
But the hood on the Vette is similar. I have a 99 2 door Tahoe with 85K on it and the hood is flawless. Sits a lot higher and it's flat though.

I think posting this is just confusing me more...
Seriously though...thanks for all the input guys!!! I appreciate it.

I agree...
We set up and show each day at each venue so thats what I would have to do. Take it of...clean up the car, and then put it back on at the hotel that night before hitting the road in the morning.

This is a shot of my original paint 71k front end that is almost chip free. Before '85 I took it on trip to Texas & she's been to Colorado a bunch of times plus Utah once. I think the long slope of that wonderful C3 nose stops alot of rocks from hitting with full impact.....

Or could there be an advantage to a rubber bumper here?..

Bras are bad for your paint, yes they do block rocks and bugs, but dirt gets traped under them and scratch's your paint.
