I have finally stripped my chassis down to the bare frame. I want to make sure that the frame is straight. I have the dimensions for the entire frame, so do I really need to pay an alignment shop to check it for me? One of the frame rails is a little crushed at the bottom corner...just aesthetic looks though. Can I check the frame myself by just using the measurements?
By measuring across the frame (diagonally) you can determine if it is out of square. Locate reference points on both sides of the frame.
Essentially, the measurement from the right front corner to the left rear corner should equal the measurement from the left front corner to the right rear corner.
The frame should also sit "flat" or level if supported equally by jacks on a flat (level) surface.

I agree, you can check it yourself. Keep in mind that Vette frames are far from perfect. Expect some variance with any measurement but nothing major. I'll be doing the same to my frame later this summer. My trans x-member is bent upward so I know it will require a minor pull. Unless you see something visible beyond a cosmetic issue, you should have no cause for worry.

I've got a good dent in the driver's side frame rail that seems to messing up some body panel alignment, nothing too major (looks like the previous owner came off a curb and smacked it pretty good). The body shop I took it to wants $600 to pull it and do some some work on the header panel under the front hood surround. This would be done with the body on. Does that seem reasonable?
