Look in Summit, Jegs, GM Performance, --- any where but eBay.
GM makes a few that fall into that power range and I don't think you can beat them for reliability. Edelbrock makes some too, but I think they are way over priced.
Check out Gilbert chevrolet (the old Sallee dealership) they have a line of GM performance engines that they "modify/build up". If your after a hot small block, check out there "Super AFR ZZ4." It puts out 465hp and 440ftlb torque. Not bad for a 350. They have many others as well. Worth a look.
for 450 hp range I'd go with a stroker motor because it will have better street/driveability maners Otherwise a standard bore and stroke 350 w/ 450hp probably wont "come to life" until you get it above 4000 rpms.
I used to have a iron headed 383/465 HP from AR Racing in Virginia and had very good experience with it. I paid $2995 for that engine and ran mid 11's in the 1/4 mile... However, other forum members had bad experience with their engines. I actually bought another engine from them (which was a lot more $) which made the car run in the very low 11's. The only complaint that I'd have about them was that they used a different cam for the build as I requested even though the cam used was very similar in specs...
For me, I really got a lot of engine for the money but their quality seems to vary..
veeery good ones!
i have their 406ci 'brutus' engine 575 hp dinoed 2 years ago, goes like hell beeing always in paradise, never had an iussue since moment 0, just switched up and it was a simphony...more then 5.000 miles on the clock and for some reason it goes faster every day...

Hey man, since you're here in GA, check out www.dixiemailorder.com They are the mail order portion of Wheeler power products in Jacksonville, Fla. I have one of their engines in my '69 Camaro and have been very happy with it. I've also seen on the forum here that alot of people are extremely happy with T&L engines out of North Carolina. I think they are in or around Charlotte. They sell on ebay, but sell outside of there too I believe. Maybe someone will chime in.
