Hey buddy i wont lowball you. This is my only third post but i am known on the chevelle website a little. I have a 70 trans am clone i am restoring right now. I currently have over $8000 in car and it comes with alot of extra body parts, rear rails are perfect and only needs driver quarter installed and trunk and i have these parts. Engine is a 400 with cam intake and headers. Of course you have to finish but i will give CASH plus my ride or buy yours outright. You can call me also at 606-369-2535. I can finish car for you since i am a full service body shop. I am also a mechanic so not really that worried about mechanical issues either.
that thing is pretty nice. shoot for $8-$10k. vettes on ebay are bringing kind of weak money right now. I have been away from the vette thing for awhile now and just re-entered with a 72 coupe.
Well here’s my story. I had a 1974 and 1976 Trans Am growing up. Sold them and bought a 1971 Corvette. Nice car. Red/red with a white convertible top. 350 4 speed and factory side exhaust. I had the Vette for 10 years and it never gave me a problem or left me stranded. It won many trophies at the local shows and I received many a complement. Nice car, great looker, but for some reason I didn’t love it. Last year I sold it and found a 1974 Trans Am. All original with a 455. I feels just as quick if not faster then the Vette, but the torque from the 455 is heads above the 350. It’s also nice having a trunk after 10 years without one. I can say that I love this car. It gets just as many complements as the Vette, but you don’t see them. Any show I go to has 15+ Vettes, I’m lucky if one other Trans Am shows up. For as many Trans Am’s Pontiac made (particularly the 1977 to 1981) there just doesn’t seem that many survived. I don’t regret changing to the TA one bit and if it’s a car you really want….go for it!
Thanks for words! It seems few think the way we do. My family are like "What?!" you want to get rid or a vette for a T/A your silly!!! But like you, I just think I would love it. I havent ever had one, but always did. Never thought about owning a Vette. I didnt go looking for it, the opportunity just presented itself and I couldn't pass up the deal.
Please let me know if you hear of anyone wanting a vette, I would love to have a restored T/A. I guess I am hoping for a 78 or earlier.
I bought a '79 T\A new in '79 and still have it. It is #24 Atlantis blue and GOLD graphics. Gold was not an authorized color combination with the #24 paint code. The dealer did an "override" on the order. Something like the old COPO deal. Anyhow, I have never seen a #24 car with the gold graphics that had the documentation to back it up. Everyone that I have seen has been re-paints or no documentation. I have the original window sticker that calls out the Gold graphics. I called the GM history department and they did not have any records on this color combination.
My first car was a '77 Trans Am with a 4-speed. In November of 2006, I bought a '78 Firebird with a 305, and though I sold my '77 back in 1986, it felt right at home to be in a Firebird again. The first thing that struck me was how much better the steering felt than my '71 Roadster. On-center feel was actually there. The '78 is now off the road while I make it the way I want (455 with aluminum heads, TKO 5-speed, etc, etc), but I can't wait to get it back on the road.
I have been talking with a gentleman that restores T/A and he may build me a 77 Bandit T/A as trade. He offered me a nice Sundance Yellow one that I may consider, it is very rare. But the problem is... it is not my Dream Car, and I may be settling for less, and if that's the case.... Why not stay with a vette?
I agree with the cool factor of a 78 TA. I just bought my first. And yes, lots of people have asked why I would want one, when I already have a corvette. For me, it's just a love of a classic muscle car. The TA will never out perform my 2001 blown vert. It's just a different kind of drive.
I am still waiting for the deal to happen. The gentleman I've been talking with has had a lot on his plate lately, so.... I guess I need to wait, or maybe if I have to wait too long, I will just keep the 69 vette.
If you are willing to take on some work, you'll end up far ahead.
I am restoring a '69 real L71 roadster (paid $10,500), and a '77 Trans Am real SE (Bandit) with Hurst Hatches (paid $1250 w<65k miles).
For both cars (and most collectible cars), numbers matching projects are available, and donor cars for nice original parts are EVERYWHERE. I know the mantra is "buy the nicest car you can find", but I would far rather have a poor quality rare car than a cherry base model...but that's me.
My Friend, you have a 69 Vette Chrome bumper car. I had a 79 T/A
I sold to buy this
Worst mistake in my life. The vette was nice but the T/A was much faster. I bought it used. Look at the front end. It was hit at some point, but I new I could fix it. I should of passed on this car but I wanted a vette.
I bought an 81 and changed the motor, trans and rear end to make it like a early vette. This car is great! Again you have a 69 chrome bumper and to trade for a 78 T/A. your nuts!!! Now, if you have a 75 to 81 maybe, but a chrome bumper.
Sorry, I don't get it. I bought a 77 Gold Edition TA new and only kept it for a couple of years. It was a 455 automatic car and it was a nice looking ride, but the thing could not get out of it's own way. I don't recall the horsepower numbers but I believe it was around 200 from the factory on a fairly heavy car. It was so choked up by emission control equipment that it just felt like driving the family sedan. Let's face it, the 455 after the super dutys in TA's were boat anchors. Now a 73 455 super duty TA, I can see that.
Either way, got to drive what you like.

The 79 thru 81 Trans-am with a Turbo 6.6 is my second fav. car. Next to the C3.
My first car was a 1981 turbo TA. It was 1980-1981 they made a pontiac 301 turbo. I loved the car but it was nothing but problems. go with a 400 or 403.
