I put a world class T5 in my '72 and it's been bullet proof so far, however, a few years ago I put a $300 used non world class in my '55 shoebox, took it out for a spin yesterday... Smoked them all through first, most of second, but when I shifted to third, blammo, then nothing! I nursed it home in second gear and parked it. I guess I'm going transmission shopping. I may try and fix the NWC, downloaded a manual, but I think the WC is the way to go, and they're not too expensive.
Norval ran one behind a big block. Don't shift like a maniac, and they stay together.
Also, several of the Fjord T5s were rated for well over 300 ft-lbs of torque.
It's been mentioned before...
Norval's big block is also blown. I also run a T5. You had the worst combination for failure, power shifting, into 3rd, on a non WC T5. The 94-95 Ford T5's are the strongest.
I went through the T5 manual I download for free on ebay, and it looks like it's pretty easy to rebuild. I've been drivin' that trans pretty hard these last few years, broke'm loose in third more times than I can count, lot o' fun though...
