hi! does anyone know if a factory radio out of a 85 gmc pickup will fit my 76 stingray. the radio looks to about the same size and is very nice.---thanks--john
This is a stock radio out of my 76. The front of the radio has to look like this to go through the dash opening. Actually there is a rectangle chrome part that says Corvette on the top of it that slips over the front of the radio to fill the hole. That's the original amp on sitting on top of the radio.

INTERESTING! So you're saying the 76's came with an amp??
Previous owner of my car put an am/fm/cassette in, ya know, with the corvette insignia on the cassette door (I'm sure you've seen them)
I was curious if it went thru an amp, but haven't been able to find one with a half hearted search under the dash....where does/would it mount under the dash?

Early sharks should have the amp. My '72 does, it's mounted behind the passenger side dash panel. Most non-Corvette radios/stereos will not fit 68 to 76 Corvettes. There are a only a handful of companies who make aftermarket radios that will fit the factory bezel.
Options known to date:
1. Have a factory Corvette unit rebuilt with new technology (AM/FM only)
2. Purchase a third party aftermarket unit designed to fit (AM/FM/CD/cassette)
3. Purchase an aftermarket bezel and modify it to fit the radio of your choice (AM/FM/CD/cassette)
If you want to retain a factory look, use option 1. If factory appearance is not a concern, use option 3. Option 2 limits your stereo/radio choices (and they're relatively expensive compared to other standard DIN stereos/radios).

This one is stereo (two capacitors in the heat sink for left and right channels). Monaural units have a smaller heat sink with one capacitor. Regardless, stock units will not work without these little jewels. When you're shopping for a stock unit, make sure it comes with one of these or check to see whether a PO left it up under the dash when going to an aftermarket unit.
