Default Side pipe originality.

Hi guys,
Great site. I got pointed this way from stevesnovasite.com
I have a buddy who is going to buy a C3 , 68, 69 or 70 and was wondering if the side pipes on so many were a factory option.
I did a search but couldn't see anything on the originality.
Not so much the ones where the header exits are visible at the front and twist into the single pipe, more like the ones on this one....

http://www.usedcorvettesforsale.com/...tte-19564.html

Any info would be much appreciated
Thanks
Chris

They were a factory option on '69 models only.

Thanks!
Did they look anything like the ones in the ad above for the '68?

Gotta be careful as the ones you show in the ad appear to be aftermarket
fiberglass covers ... painted silver. They look fine, but far from "original".

Note the chrome plated originals shown by corvetteron ... he shows the
covers. The exhaust pipes themselves are fully hidden.

These can be easily added to most C3 years with little modification.
Original 69 covers have (3) chrome plated aluminum pieces and one
fiberglass "insulator" on each side.

To figure value of covers into car value, consider the purchase price:
Stock style pipes themselves can be in the $400-$700 range.

those appear to be painted fiberglas covers. I have a set of original '69 covers.

How come the pipes are hanging so far below the covers?

These look like aftermarket fiberglass covers to me, painted silver.
Might want to tag base with the seller. $33,600 seems high.
