Default C3 frame VIN number decode help requested.

I've got a spare frame I've been modifying (C4 suspension) to eventually slide under my '69. I'm just curious where this frame spent its previous life. I've had a difficult time reading the numbers stamped at the rear kickup. From what I can determine, the numbers are 98701110. Does this make any sense? I appreciate any help on this.

thanks,
Mike

check the number again though - the '69 frame will read 9S7XXXXX
where XXXXX is the serial number. In your case, the '987' should read "9S7' with the serial number being 01110 (an early car) ....
?????
Your info makes sense. The frame has the angled braces on the rear kickups, so I assumed it was post '68, but it didn't have some of the holes drilled in the front crossmember for the brake line clamps. My current frame has these holes and clamps, which made me curious why this frame didn't, and what model year produced this slight difference.

Thanks for your help. It's greatly appreciated.

I looked at the website. Rather interesting. I'll have to go out in the garage tomorrow and jot down the VIN for the '69 and see what build date it comes up with.

Thanks for the information.

Default Early 69

My early 69 serial number 02185 has the holes and brake line clamps on the front crossmember....

Hope that helps ...

I was just at an NCRS meet watching the chassis judges, and I was told the number they were looking for under the passenger side frame rail (it is stenciled on) is a part number for the frame and a date, not the car's vin which is somewhere else. I don't know what the part number is, to compare it to the number you have.
