The shims are used to adjust the toe alignment. If you don't have the location of the shims labled, you can put the shims in and make sure the trailing arms are packed tight till you get an alignment. IHO, I would not drive the care without shims.

I am asuming you redid the TA bushings as the reason you had the thing apart. If so, put the shims back in so that the rear wheels are paralell as you can get them, that will get you by until you get the alignment done. Use a tape measure and measure tire center to tire center on the front and rear of the rear tires.

I am in the process of doing a frame off and when I took the trailing arms off the shims were rusted together so it was hard to tell how many were on each side.
